Gwinnett Braves Game a BIG Hit!
Today was one of the BEST trips Mrs. Welch has ever had the pleasure to be on!!! Our students were excellent examples of fine, young children at Oakwood Elementary.
We began our journey singing the National Anthem.
As we were leaving the field one of the Braves players gave Arturo a baseball!!!
We then went to our seats and watched some of the game. Students were entertained with the games, chants, songs, and movie clips shared throughout the innings.
After eating lunch, we checked out the vendors stands! We discussed how their billboards and flyers were persuasive. We also talked about how their attractive pictures and colors made us get interested in what they had to offer. We got free pencils, coloring pages, and LOTS of coupons for things like Kraft cheese! HOW NEAT!
One booth had animal furs and skulls for us to look at and explore. We REALLY asked this vendor a lot of questions. :)
We spent our last few minutes watching a tied game. We then ventured back home.
What an awesome day we had! Thank you parents for allowing us this amazing, fun-filled experience!

After we watched the game, we decided we needed to eat and get in the shade. But as we were leaving,Chipper came into our section. He was doing a variety of beats on a drum. We echoed him with clapping our hands. Before we went to lunch we got a high five from him!

Technology is Amazing!
Mrs. Welch was out sick today (bronchitis), but she was able to record her lessons and our substitute played them for us.
Mrs. Welch loved knowing that our students were able to still get the awesome lesson in the exact way that they were use to and were even able to hear her voice!
What a neat way to use our technology!
Thanks to Mrs. Benson for stepping in and helping Mrs. Welch in her absence.

Our First Olympian of the Week
On Friday we nominated students we felt deserved to be the Olympian of the Week. Nathan received 5 nominations for Olympian of the Week. His peers described him as a model of Eagle PRIDE and the 7 Habits. He is respectful of his peers, adults, and him self. He is certainly a fine, young man. We are all proud of him!

Today we had the chance to meet with Mrs. White's class. Mrs. White gave us directions on a tic-tac-toe activity to do together in partners.
Sissie and partner helped each other when they got stuck.

We used Habit 6: Synergize. We worked together to accomplish our tasks.

The Hundred Dresses
In Writer's Workshop we have been discussing the 7 Habits and elements of narratives through reading The Hundred Dresses. While reading the book Mrs. Welch is modeling for the students how good readers ask questions and make connections to what they're reading.

Our Second Day
We spent a lot of time today discussing Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind. As a class we did an exercise where we looked at what was important about our reputation and what we wanted to be able to say about our class at the end of the year. Our class created the following class mission statement:
•We are a class of friends. We model Eagle PRIDE and the 7 Habits by being kind and helping each other, encouraging and lifting each other up, are respectful of each other, do our best EVERY day, and have FUN! Mrs. Welch inspires us to believe in ourselves.
We placed a copy of this in our agendas to remind us of our class mission.

Exciting First Day
Today we took a tour around the room, discussed our routines and procedures, discussed our behaviors and The 7 Habits, and began discussing our class mission. The question students were left with today is: What do we want to be able to say about our class on the last day of school? (Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind) Students have been asked to write a phrase, statement, or sentence (or two) about what they want our class mission to be. Tomorrow we're going to write our class mission.
We're looking forward to an exciting year together! What a wonderful start we had to our year! :)

It was such a pleasure meeting all of our families last night! We had an amazing turn out. Check out our third grade team.
Mrs. White, Mrs. Welch, Mrs. Friend, and Mrs. Copher
Something quite special and unique is that after this year I will have taught all of Mrs. Martinez's children. Below is a picture of all of us.
I look forward to seeing you all on Monday! Have a restful weekend! I'm SOOOOOOO excited!
