We will be sharing our daily reading adventures in this section.
I will be implementing the Reader’s Workshop method of instruction with your students. We will begin our reading class with a minilesson at our carpet area. An explicit skill will be modeled and students will then work independently, in partners, or in groups to acquire and demonstrate mastery of this skill through their independent reading. While students are working, I will be conferencing with a few students each day. At the end of our workshop we will return to the carpet and share our experiences with mastering this skill. This is time for us to celebrate our mistakes and challenges and learn from each other. This will offer an opportunity for me to also quickly reinforce the skill they have been taught for the day.
I will also have Guided Reading groups. Guided Reading allows me the opportunity to target specific skills that each individual athlete needs to master on grade level reading fluency and comprehension skills. I have been provided with a tool, the Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA), to help assess where a child independently comprehends and reads fluently. This assessment provides specific areas of growth in which to work with our athlete. I will use this to guide my instruction in Guided Reading groups and literature circles.

We will be working together to master the following Georgia Performance Standards:
ELA3R1 The student demonstrates the ability to read orally with speed, accuracy, and expression.
ELA3R2 The student acquires and uses grade-level words to communicate effectively.
ELA3R3 The student uses a variety of strategies to gain meaning from grade-level text.
